Health Projects Center

Health Projects Center (HPC) exists to address the health and human needs of individuals, families and communities of California's Central Coast by developing and implementing high quality programs and strategies. HPC implements the Multi-Purpose Senior Services Program, Del Mar Caregiver Resource Center, and the Central Coast Area Health Education Center.  HPC is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation established in 1980.

Multipurpose Senior Services Program (MSSP)

The Multipurpose Senior Services Program provides support services to help keep frail elderly clients safe and healthy at home. MSSP is a program of the California Department of Aging and funded by Medi-Cal.  MSSP is provided at no cost to eligible participants in Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties. During the past year, HPC provided intensive care management support to 424 clients. The average age of these clients is 82 years. These individuals are in need of significant help with activities of daily living: 96% require help with bathing; 63% with toileting; and 23% with eating.

Del Mar Caregiver Resource Center (CRC)

Del Mar Caregiver Resource Center provides
support to family caregivers caring for a loved one with cognitive impairment such as Alzheimer’s disease, traumatic brain injury, dementia or stroke. Del Mar CRC is part of a statewide system funded by the California Department of Health Care Services and local sources. Since 1988, this program has provided caregivers throughout the Monterey Bay region with in-home respite care, family consultations, support groups, legal consultations, counseling, educational programs and other

essential services.

Central Coast Area Health Education Center (AHEC)

Central Coast AHEC works to develop the health care workforce to care for the underserved, especially the state’s rapidly growing geriatric population. During the year, AHEC supported community based training for 24 UCSF Family Medicine Residents from Natividad Medical Center and 96 nursing students from Cabrillo College. AHEC also delivered training for in-home care workers. The AHEC is financially supported by U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration and the University of California San Francisco.
